Database Upgrades

Reach a Supported Version Without Breaking What Works

IT teams running databases near or past end of support can hand us the upgrade from plan to sign-off. We cover SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL, and MySQL, with compatibility testing and a rollback plan behind every production change.

What We Deliver

Where We Make the Difference

Staying on an unsupported version means missing security patches and facing harder audits. Yet upgrades carry their own risk: deprecated features, changed optimizer behavior, and application code that assumed the old rules. We find those issues in testing, so the production upgrade is a planned event rather than an experiment.

01

Compatibility Review

We scan for deprecated and removed features, changed defaults, and code that depends on old behavior, and list every item that needs a fix before upgrade day.

02

Application Testing in Staging

Your applications run against the new version on a staging copy, with functional tests, regression suites, and performance comparisons, before production is touched.

03

The Right Upgrade Method

In-place upgrade, side-by-side migration, or replication-based switchover: we choose the method that gives your platform the shortest outage and the lowest risk.

04

Rollback Ready

Every upgrade has a rollback procedure that is written, rehearsed, and agreed in advance, so a problem on the night has a known and tested way back.

Our Approach

How We Deliver Database Upgrades

  1. Step 1: Assess the Version Gap

We review the source and target versions, deprecated feature use, and application dependencies, then give you a risk assessment and an effort estimate.

  2. Step 2: Upgrade a Copy First

We upgrade a test environment, run your applications against it, and resolve every issue found before scheduling the production change.

  3. Step 3: Execute in the Window

The production upgrade runs in an agreed maintenance window with live monitoring, experienced DBAs on the call, and the rollback ready to use.

  4. Step 4: Validate and Stabilize

After the upgrade we compare performance with the baseline, confirm functionality with your testers, and stay close through the stabilization period.

FAQ

Common Questions

Something we did not cover? Ask us directly.

How much downtime does an upgrade need?

It depends on the platform, the database size, and the method. In-place upgrades need a maintenance window, while replication-based approaches can shorten the outage considerably. We give you a realistic estimate after the assessment.

Can we skip several versions at once?

Often yes, but larger jumps mean more behavior changes to test. We check whether the vendor supports a direct path and plan an intermediate step only when one is required.

What if our applications are not certified for the new version?

We check with your application vendors early. If certification is missing, we help you weigh the options: waiting, stopping at an intermediate version, or testing thoroughly and accepting a known risk.
